COLLABORATIVE FUNDING REQUESTS

The Ford Family Foundation's "Rural Community Building Collective," has applied to the following collaborative grant opportunities supported by Kelley & Co./Kelley Nonprofit Consulting:

New Pluralists Breakthrough Fund–these grants are awarded to collaborative initiatives that “...are bringing together unlikely allies, across class divides, to improve people’s lives and communities.”

Aspen Institute Trust in Practice Awards–this funder is investing in collaborations that “seek to strengthen trust in communities and shift narratives or practices around trust”. The collaborative application submitted by High Desert Partnership and fellow RCBC organizations has made it through the first round of review–which pared 250+ applicants down to 40; ultimately, only about 8 will receive awards.

The proposed project centered on disaster resilience, and building trust infrastructure in rural communities before crisis strikes. This project positions RCBC to co-design refreshed frameworks for Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COADs) and similar networks, strengthening Resilience Hubs, and connecting communities with “sister” places who have already experienced disaster firsthand.

IMPACT STORYTELLING

Together with the Ford Family Foundation’s Rural Community Building Collective, we developed a flexible, scalable “RCB Storybook” system that allows each Rural Community Builder to continually showcase how their rural communities come together to build resilience across sectors like disaster preparedness, childcare, education, food security, and so much more! We also developed assets to help explain the “what” and “why” of Rural Community Builders, and emphasize that centering trust through place-based, community-led projects is essential to successful rural resilience efforts.
